It is now over 20 years since Dr. Charles Krebs had a serious diving accident that left him paralyzed with a medical prognosis that he would never walk again. Charles is a man who doesn't give up easily and the story of how he managed to get himself up and walking again despite all the odds is truly remarkable.

Along the way, Charles developed a particular interest in how the brain works and in assisting children with learning difficulties. He developed the LEAP (Learning Enhanced Acupuncture Programme) programme which is remarkably effective in balancing a wide range of stubborn learning problems.

During more than a decade of research into this complex and fascinating subject Charles frequently noticed that different nutrition would make a significant impact on certain people in terms of 'switching on' or 'integrating' their brains. Combining years of nutritional experience with the new LEAP brain integration formatting and his latest research from Australia, led to a break through in understanding and a new approach to the research programme yielded surprising results.

    INTRODUCTION - Nutritional Deficiency

What makes up nutrition, how it works in our body and how good nutrition can remedy many chronic disease conditions increasing your health maintaining optimal mental performance.

    ZINC - The Zinc Connection
While any nutrient may be either marginally or absolutely deficient, marginal deficiencies are far more common. Zinc deficiency will be discussed in some detail below as an example of the effects of a single important micronutrient deficiency upon brain function, but much of this discussion also applies to most other nutrients required for optimum mental performance, especially iron whose biochemical dynamics are similar to zinc.     STRESS - Stress and Mental Performance
To understand how stress can affect mental performance, we first must have a basic understanding of how the brain works, what ‘stress’ is, and thus how it might interfere with our mental performance. Can nutrition play a role in changing our stress levels?

NUTRITION - How Nutrition Can Optimize Mental Performance
If optimum mental performance depends upon maintaining Brain Integration under stress, what role does nutritional supplementation play in the performance of the brain?

MENTAL PERFORMANCE - Nutrition for Optimum Mental Performance.
Optimal mental performance clearly relies on your ability to maintain Brain Integration in stress situations, requiring many different types of nutrients to sustain neurotransmitter (NT) and fatty acid (FA) synthesis to convert glucose into the energy molecule ATP to power the brain

NUTRICEUTICAL - Nutriceuticals for Optimising Mental Performance.
When you look at the sheer number of nutrients required to support optimum mental performance, it seems unlikely that most people would ever take all of these supplements, each taken at the same time. But if you want to improve or optimise your mental performance, what should you do? Back to top

THINKING ADVANTAGE - A Remarkable Solution to Optimising Mental Performance
Applied Neurology is the use of muscle-acupressure feedback to assess nutrient-brain interactions. Although not commonly known, it is one of the best biofeedback tools presently available. Applied Neurology can be used to evaluate if nutritional deficiencies affect specific brain functions. Back to top
