If optimum mental performance depends upon maintaining
Brain Integration under stress, what role does nutritional
supplementation play in the performance of the brain?
Ultimately, brain integration is actually a
biochemical phenomenon, as it is dependent on both neuronal
membrane stability and the production of a variety of neurotransmitters
together with their receptors and transporters. These are
the molecules that facilitate and transmit nerve impulses
from one neuron to another and carry the signals being integrated.
Brain integration will therefore be disrupted
and all dependent functions will be impeded or lost if, for
any reason, these transmissions or signals fail. What will
cause them to fail is insufficient levels of neurotransmitters
and/or receptors or transporters, or the lack of proper fatty
acids to do this neural signalling.
