If you suffer from micronutrient deficiency
like the zinc deficiency discussed above, there are several approaches
to resolving this problem, depending upon the cause of the problem.
If you simply eat too few zinc-rich foods and/or foods containing
high levels of phytates inhibiting zinc absorption, you can just substitute
more zinc rich foods into your diet and perhaps cut out of your diet
some of the foods containing zinc inhibitors like processed snacks
and junk food.
However, for most people, taking zinc supplements is probably the
most efficient and effective way to overcome the consequences of zinc
efficiency! This is especially true for those of us with genetically
less efficient zinc transporters, for whom getting sufficient zinc
from our diet alone is difficult.
Whether you have too many phytates in your food, common in many cereal
based fast foods, or just don't eat enough zinc-rich foods like red
meat, or have inefficient zinc transporters, by increasing the amount
of zinc in your diet through supplementation you will take up more
zinc and eliminate your deficiency. |
